Well, the problem stems from the fact that yumex-applet obsolete's, and
is supposed to replace rhn-applet. That's the reason why yum wouldn't
update them.
I'm not certain why the i386 worked. It should have given a problem as
well. I guess if both of them are up to date, then yum isn't going to
fail, it's just going to leave them both the way they are.
