No, I have a line saying and that was working before with XFree86 (this
       laptop started with Red_Hat 6.2)
       Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

In fact I just discover the xrandr command and I can change the resolution
again. I got even more than in the Modes line of xconf.org !

       #### rabeson:/etc/X11 > xrandr
        SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh
       *0 1600 x 1200 ( 323mm x 242mm ) *50
        1 1600 x 1024 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 51
        2 1400 x 1050 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 52
        3 1280 x 1024 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 53
        4 1280 x 960 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 54
        5 1152 x 768 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 55
        6 1024 x 768 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 56

        8 800 x 512 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 60
        9 640 x 512 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 61
        10 640 x 480 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 62 63
        11 576 x 384 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 64
        12 512 x 384 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 65
        13 400 x 300 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 66 67
        14 320 x 240 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 68

But I still don't know why the <Ctrl><Alt> combination
       doesn't work :((
