dear users,

i have just installed scientific linux 4.4 (x86_64) to a Gateway MX6440
laptop. it has a 15.4 widescreen. 
after the installation at the first boot i have chosen the screen as a LCD
Panel 1280x800 which works fine for every other Linux distro. 
however even though i have chosen the hardware as LCD Panel 1280x800, in the
resolution menu there is no option for a resolution of 1280x800, 

the resolutions i have are the usual 1280x1024, 1024x768, 1400x1050,
1600x1200, 640x480 and 800x600.

but selecting one of these don't work since the laptop is a wide screen. is
there any other way that i can make the system work with a resolution in 1280x800.
