The first thing I would try is use the "Install" DVD instead of the
"Everything" 2-DVD set.

From the sounds of things, you picked one of the external repositories
during the "Installion Type" screen.
http://www.scientificlinux.org/distributions/6x/installing/installation.type.html
This does not work on the "Everything" DVD's.
