Hi,

I went the easiest way and didn't state that /usr/pkg is populated with
all necessary subdirectories (e.g. /usr/pkg/etc).

So _does_ NetBSD. You get clean stable system plus __one__ package
system with __one__ binaries repository. Most of the apps are made for
NetBSD and can't be treated as third party, just contrary, I'd say
those binaries are integral part of NetBSD system! Of course pkgsrc
system is beyond the scope of NetBSD system core activity but it _is_
NetBSD sibling. It is so good it was incorporated to other great
operating systems.

Those programmers or maintainers who make pkgsrc packages which in
nature comprise of compiling and installing recipes must have them
checked at least once e.g. compiled. :) So in result a huge binary repo
is being created and available to users. You don't have to compile your
applications (with a few exceptions like mplayer). They are ready
for D/L right away.

BTW. I went into silence for a while as I had to compile my Sylpheed. It
happened I used a version without spell-checker. 10 minutes later I got
the MA ready to use! Believe me, it was a pleasure. :) Now I correct my
English writings as I type it.

I hope I won't be seen as NetBSD Vth Column on SL ground. :)
My quest whether someone tried to evaluate or made feasibility study
on transferring pkgsrc to SL/RH is still valid.

Cheers,
pp
