Well, the other reason to do this is on very large clusters 
there is a limit on the number of ports rsh can have open.
There is a way to alter this in the kernel.
But to be honest, just use rsh.

That is a good idea.

I wrote a simple script that users would run, to generate passwordless
keys.
In fact, the site I Was working with used a script to generate temporary
keys which are used once only.
Google for 'rocks' 'ssh' 'mpich' 'temporary' and I think you will find a
script.
