dear all

A few changes to the UAF will be implemented during the next planned
downtime
Thursday December 9th. The downtime is scheduled to start at 7:30 am and
might
last until noon. During the downtime the alias cmsuaf which currently
points
to bigmac will move to a new machine replacing bigmac as the head node
of the
UAF.
That means after the upgrade you will not be able anymore to log into the
UAF by typing ssh bigmac.fnal.gov but you have to use the alias
ssh cmsuaf.fnal.gov. This way we can replace the head node by a spare
should
the head node fail.
Other changes will involve the disk space currently there are 2 disk areas
connected to bigmac and nfs mounted to all the worker nodes:
/storage/data and /storage/data1.
These will be replaced by a disk area mounted as /storage/data6. You
will find
a directory with your user name on /storage/data6 and you will have read
write
access to the disk. To avoid the problems we experienced in the past
with full filesystems
bringing everything down we will
enable disk quotas with the initial quota set to 2GB. If this is not enough
please contact me. But you are encouraged to regard this as an
opportunity to get rid of
stuff that you don't need anymore or forgot that it existed.
After the upgrade the /storage/data and /storage/data1 disks will still
be available but
we would like to request that you move (mv) any needed files from
"/storage/data" and
"/storage/data1" to "/storage/data6" between Dec. 9 and Dec. 23.
After you moved the files please make sure that the files in /storage/data
and /storage/data1 are deleted.

After Dec. 23, the "/storage/data" and "/storage/data1" areas will not be
available anymore.

So in summary:
after Dec. 9 you have to use cmsuaf to get into the UAF.
you will have to start to move your files to the new disk area.

the cms facilities team

For your information the UAF pages now moved to:
http://www.uscms.org/SoftwareComputing/UserComputing/UserComputing.html
(they definitely need some work)

Also you might want to subscribe to the [log in to unmask] mailing list
which is intended as a self help forum for lpc/uaf users where you can
post questions
and even better answers.
I will encourage the experts to subscribe and monitor this mailing list
so that hopefully it
evolves in something active and useful.

you can subscribe to it in the following way:

*To SUBSCRIBE to a mailing list called /MYLIST/*

  1. Send an e-mail message to
